City of Bethlehem - Digestor Improvements
The City of Bethlehem has embarked on a long range capital plan to upgrade failing components at its wastewater plant by expanding the plant to provide capacity due to regional development and to address long standing Combined Sewer Overflow/Sanitary Sewer Overflow (CSO/SSO) concerns. Global design and consultant firm, ARCADIS selected D’Huy Engineering for structural engineering and construction phase administration for the Waste Activated Sludge Pump Station (WAS PS) upgrade and Digester renovation and expansion. The project involves additions to the masonry bearing WAS PS to provide for additional sludge dewatering equipment and the conversion of secondary digesters to provide primary treatment. D’Huy provided structural design for the WAS PS addition and designed concrete and masonry repairs to rehabilitate the existing digesters, and control building and support structures.
Prior to this project, D’Huy provided structural consulting to the City for the structural rehabilitation of two digesters, including reinforcements for the tops of walls using new cast-in-place concrete ring beams to the forces of the proposed new Dyster covers.
