Burn Brae Firehouse
D’Huy Engineering (DEI) was involved with this project from the very beginning, working with GKO Architects from the early conceptual design to the final design phase. We provided professional design services throughout the project including establishing the project scope, budget, and design and construction schedules. DEI also provided construction management services throughout the construction phase, including Resident Project Engineering services. A Resident Project Engineer was on the project site every day to oversee and monitor the construction process, and review and sign off on the payments to ensure the project schedule milestone dates were met and the project was completed on time and on budget.
The project was a strategically focused renovation of the existing Upper Dublin Burn Brae Firehouse in lieu of a complete tear-down and rebuild of the 40+ year old structure. The firehouse consists of three apparatus bays accompanied by gathering quarters and office spaces. The project was a complete renovation of the existing facility with new MEP systems and interior finishes, and the construction of an additional apparatus bay. The “living area” upgrades included the addition of five bunk rooms, meeting day room and new radio/conference/control room.
The exterior upgrades consisted of storm sewer upgrades to better control storm water run-off around the facility, installation of new windows throughout the facility and freshening up the existing exterior finishes. The bids received for the project were under budget and the construction team implemented the renovation and addition in six months while maintaining the emergency center for dispatching a fire truck from the facility. The renovations allow the Upper Dublin Township Fire Department to better serve the emergency needs of the township.
