Since 1994 D’Huy Engineering, Inc. has successfully completed over 100 brownstone renovation projects in the New York City metro area, with a majority of them falling within the Landmarks Preservation Commission’s (LPC) control. We find that the uniqueness of each structure and the challenges of each renovation, whether large or small, make this type of work both enjoyable and rewarding. DEI works closely with the owner, architect and often the contractor to develop project requirements for specific design aspects and determine material selection for structural components.
Due to the nature of these projects, some existing conditions of the structure are typically not known until demolition is underway. Our clients have come to rely on our quick response and creative solutions to address unknown conditions encountered during the construction phase, which in turn minimizes delays in project completion. Our extensive experience in these types of structures enables our staff to foresee many of the pitfalls associated with the structural aspects of these projects and circumvent construction problems in advance by providing appropriate details during the design phase.
